We are currently recruiting Dyslexia Tutors to offer study skills support to students at a central London based university. The work offers part time, flexible hours to suit the candidate and pays £45p/hr.

Role Description:

1.To deliver support tuition to students with specific learning difficulties including dyslexia;
2.To work with the student to identify learning styles and strengths and utilise these to facilitate independent learning;
3.To advise and assist the student on appropriate approaches and strategies which they may adopt to facilitate effective study and learning including but not exclusively note-taking, planning, organisational and research skills, academic writing and examination preparation as appropriate;
4.To encourage the student to develop independent learning and study skills;
5.To prepare for each session with the student including preparing individualised resources in advance;
6.To draw upon and make use of all resources available to the student including institutional facilities and ICT / assistive technology resources available to the student.

£45p/hr plus other benefits including holiday pay and training.
Experience of Higher Education and the range of study related activities demanded of students in higher education

BDA qualification or equivalent

Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills;

Ability to maintain confidentiality, behave in a professional working relationship with students allocated and maintain a patient and understanding attitude.

The ability to communicate effectively and foster good relationships with staff, students and others as appropriate

Have an understanding of issues relating to students who are disabled.

Understand and respect confidentiality.

Understand the need for university students to maintain and develop independence and act to facilitate this where appropriate;

Flexibility of attitude and ability to negotiate an effective working relationship with disabled students;

Commitment to The Code of Practice for Support Workers.

A high standard of IT literacy and experience of using assistive technology resources

Excellent personal academic / study skills and an ability to develop these in others

Knowledge of the nature of dyslexia and/or other disabilities;

Familiarity with a range of academic language and terminology and an ability to deal with a range of subject areas;

Flexible in hours / days available;

Commitment to the role for a full academic year;

Willingness to work at and travel to a variety of locations;

Commitment to networking with colleagues;

Commitment to continuing professional development as appropriate to maintain currency;

To attend meetings to review the operation of the Tutor Service, to network with colleagues and for purposes of professional development and resourcing.
